Protestors continue fight for free replacement procedure for PIP implants

Protestors in London marched on Saturday to a private clinic that fitted PIP implants in almost 14,000 women in a bid to persuade it and similar clinics to replace the implants free of charge for women experiencing complications, the Guardian reported.

The faulty implants from the now-defunct French firm have left many women seeking compensation for the problems they have undergone as a result of the operation. An estimated sixty of the 40,000 women affected in the UK turned out to protest against the Harley Medical Group on Harley Street, one of the private firms that are refusing to remove and replace the implants for free.

The NHS, which conducted around 5 per cent of the operations, is offering to remove and replace the implants free of charge to anybody who requires it, but private firms around the country are refusing to accept the responsibility. The Harley Medical Group has claimed that such a task would put them out of business.

Although they won’t replace them completely, the NHS has offered to remove the faulty implants of those women whose clinics refuse to offer the free replacement service.

Women across the country have been experiencing problems with the Poly Implant Prostheses (PIP) implants over the last few years because the non-medical grade silicone that was implanted was intended to be used in mattresses.

The well-publicised problems have caused hysteria amongst tens of thousands of women who have received the PIP implants, but not all of them have been experiencing problems. The Government pushed out an advertising campaign this weekend to advise women that not everybody requires replacements. It is only those who have been experiencing pain and tenderness as a result of the implants that may need to consider replacement.

Many of these women have been left in significant discomfort and some are seeking legal advice on the matter. If you have been experiencing problems from PIP implants, speak to one of our personal injury lawyers today to discuss your eligibility for compensation.
