Reporting Line

Reporting to Group Director of Finance and working under the supervision of the Financial Accountant.

First4Lawyers Permanent House, 1 Dundas Street, Huddersfield, West Yorkshire HD1 2HE. Located in Huddersfield town centre, we are conveniently located close to the motorway network and within walking distance of the railway station meaning we are within easy commuting distance of Leeds, Wakefield, Sheffield, Bradford, Dewsbury, Halifax and Manchester.

Hybrid office working arrangement.

Job Type

Full Time based on 37.5 hours per week. Permanent.

Monday to Friday 09:00 17:30.

About the role

Reporting to and providing general accounting assistance to the Group Director of Finance and the Financial Accountant. Responsible for ensuring the transactions and reconciliations supporting the monthly management accounts of the company are complete, accurate and prepared to set deadlines. Liaising with other internal departments and external stakeholders of the company on accounting matters. At all times representing the F4L finance department in a manner consistent with the company values.

Typical Duties

  • Raising company Sales Invoices and posting these to the accounting ledgers
  • Coding and Posting Purchase Ledger Invoices
  • Performing reconciliations on the purchase ledger accounts
  • Preparing proposed payment runs
  • Credit control of Sales Invoices
  • Posting cash to Sales and Purchase ledgers
  • Liaising with Supplier and Customer accounts departments over the phone and on email as required
  • Reporting on debtors and creditors balances
  • Raising Commission Invoices to Business Partners
  • Reconciliation of Business Partner Commission Accounts
  • Completion of bank reconciliations for the group company bank accounts
  • Preparation and posting of journals
  • Analysis and reconciliation of control accounts for the group companies
  • Preparing intercompany journals and reconciliations
  • Coding and Posting staff expenses to the accounts ledgers
  • Calculation of commission for the business development team
  • Analysis of Credit card spend
  • Reconciliation of credit card sales receipts and posting the receipts to the relevant sales ledger accounts
  • Preparation of Accrual and Prepayments
  • Assistant with management accounts preparation and variance analysis
  • Assisting with year end Financial Accounts preparation and Audit
  • Assisting the Director of Finance and the Financial Accountant by preparing adhoc reports and completing financial analysis when required
  • Reviewing financial records and correcting inconsistencies and coding errors
  • Reporting on claims team conversion rates and team performance

Skills

  • The ability to work well under pressure and towards tight deadlines
  • Strong organisational skills
  • Highly numerate
  • Ability to work to a high level of accuracy with an eye for detail
  • The ability to communicate professionally at all levels within the firm, with clients and external contacts
  • A good team player, but also the ability to work confidently under own initiative
  • Advanced Excel Skills
  • Flexible approach to work

Candidate Qualifications & Experience

  • AAT qualified or studying towards ACCA, CIMA or similar
  • Educated to A Level standard
  • Practical Experience of working with Sage Line 50 Accounts system (desirable)
  • A minimum of 3 years demonstrable practical experience of working at an Assistant Accountant level (desirable)
